Catching Up Between Sundays

Well, friends, it has been a while since I sat down to write here, and a lot of life has happened between Sundays since then. Let me catch you up.

Back in July, we started a series called Called By Name, walking one by one through the men Jesus chose to follow Him. We met Peter and Andrew, Matthew and Thomas, the Sons of Thunder, Philip and Nathanael, and then the quieter ones Scripture barely mentions: Simon the Zealot, Thaddaeus, and James, son of Alphaeus. We closed it out on October 25 with Judas, Matthias, and the empty seat. If there was one thread running through all of it, it was this: those first-century disciples were not so different from us. They were ordinary people with tempers, doubts, and questions, and Jesus called every one of them by name anyway. He still does.

I have just finished uploading every audio message from the series, along with its handout, right here on this site, so anyone can hear the whole series from start to finish.

Some of you may remember that I started sharing a daily devotional from the book of James called Faith That Works. I will be honest with you: I went quiet on it. Once I started posting, I realized it needed some real rewriting before it was ready. I am still working on it, and I would rather get it right than get it out fast. James would probably have something to say about a faith that only talks, so I am letting the work catch up with the words.

Like every church family, we have walked through some tender seasons together this fall, too. Some of you have carried grief, and others have carried each other. That is what the body of Christ is supposed to look like, and I am grateful to be part of it.

As we head toward Thanksgiving, I find myself grateful for each person I meet in fellowship. I am looking forward to our Tejas Thanksgiving Potluck on Sunday, November 22, at the Bulverde Community Center. For more information, email me at barbtejasmc@gmail.com.

As always, keep looking up.

In Christ, Pastor Barb
